HydraFacial Aftercare: What to Do and Avoid in 72 Hours
By Unique Beauty Salon | September 13, 2026

People tell us they love our facials because we take care of our customers and keep things affordable in Tacoma. The single most important Hydra Facial aftercare rule is this: for the first 24 to 72 hours, protect your skin from heat and irritation. That means no direct sun, no heavy sweating, and no active skincare like retinoids or acids until your skin fully calms down.
Our Hydra Facial is a 75-minute hydrafacial face treatment that deeply cleanses, gently exfoliates, extracts, and hydrates in the same session. You usually walk out glowing, so the goal with aftercare is simple: don’t accidentally dull that result the next day.
First 24 to 48 hours after a Hydra Facial: the “keep it calm” plan
Right after your hydrafacial facial, your skin is freshly cleaned out and hydrated. It also tends to be a little more reactive. We generally recommend you treat the first day like a reset day for your face.
Quick rule: If it makes you hot, red, or tight, skip it for now. Heat and friction are the two biggest reasons people lose that “just had a facial” glow too fast.
Do this on day 0 to day 1
- Cleanse gently, once at night. Use lukewarm water, not hot.
- Keep your hands off your face. No picking, no “just checking that spot.”
- Hydrate with a simple, fragrance-free moisturizer or hydrating serum.
- Wear mineral SPF 30+ the next morning, even if it’s cloudy.
Avoid this on day 0 to day 2
- Heavy makeup, especially full-coverage foundation, until redness is gone. Many people are fine after 24 hours, but if your skin still looks pink, give it longer.
- Vigorous workouts that cause heavy sweating, plus saunas and steam rooms.
- Hot tubs and swimming pools for at least 24 to 48 hours.
- Retinoids, AHAs/BHAs, exfoliating scrubs, or at-home peels for 48 to 72 hours.
48 to 72 hours and the first week: keep your glow, don’t chase it
A lot of people leave our East Tacoma facial spa feeling “refreshed, glowing, and stress-free.” That’s the feeling we want you to keep. The mistake we see most often is jumping back into strong actives too quickly because your skin looks so good.
If your skin is calm at 48 hours, you can usually ease back into your normal routine. Start slow. Think one active product at a time, every other night at first. If you get stinging or new tightness, pull back and go gentle again for a couple days.
Tacoma tip: We’ve got a marine climate, so the sun doesn’t always feel intense, but UV still shows up. Daily SPF matters even for waterfront walks and Point Defiance days.
What about blackheads and clogged pores?
HydraFacials are popular because they combine cleansing with gentle extraction, so yes, they often help with blackheads and congestion. After your appointment, don’t try to “keep extracting” at home. Let your pores settle. You’ll usually notice your skin looks clearer and smoother when you leave it alone and keep it hydrated.
Simple products that support a hydrating facial result
You don’t need a new shelf of products after a Hydra Facial. You need the right basics for a few days.
Gentle cleanser
Fragrance-free, no scrubs, no exfoliating beads. If your face feels squeaky clean, it’s usually too harsh for post-facial skin.
Hydrating serum or moisturizer
Look for soothing hydration. Keep it simple for 48 to 72 hours, then go back to your usual actives if your skin is happy.
Mineral sunscreen SPF 30+
Broad-spectrum, every morning. Reapply if you’re outside. This one step protects the smooth, hydrated look you just paid for.
And if you booked because you searched “hydrafacial near me” or “facials near me, ” this part matters: aftercare is what makes the result last longer than a day. Most people notice the glow right away, and with smart skincare, it often holds up well through the week.
A quick 1-page Hydra Facial aftercare checklist (snap a photo)
- Immediately after: Skip heat, skip picking, keep it clean and hydrated.
- 0 to 24 hours: No heavy makeup. No sauna/steam. No hot tubs or swimming.
- 24 hours: If redness is gone, you can usually wear makeup and return to workouts. If not, wait.
- 48 to 72 hours: Avoid retinoids, AHAs/BHAs, and exfoliants until your skin feels completely normal.
- One week: Keep up daily mineral SPF. Stay consistent with gentle cleansing and hydration.

Reach out to us if you’re unsure about a product you want to restart, or if redness isn’t calming down within a couple days. And if you ever notice blistering or signs of infection, get medical care right away.
